1 Award Per MDG Category will be given to an outstanding project, individual, organization or nation who has impacted the most in the respective areas

1 Award will be given to a remarkable individual who has impacted the world in raising planetary consciousness

The United Nations Millennium Awards will be staged at the worlds most famous venue: the UN General Assembly Hall in New YorkCity on the 12th of September 2008. The forum will open the planetery discussion surrounding the Millenium Development Goals and will be the touchstone for people, NGO's and nations of the world as we all participate in creating the global democratic highway.

The 2008 Forum will be ‘hard-wired’ to the world witde web as an interactive forum featuring leaders within the UN and MDG communities and a special sitting of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Stavangar, Norway. The twinned locations will co-host a three hour special session on the Millennium Development Goals.Participants will include Nobel Laureates, UN leaders, Heads-of-State and celebrated luminaries - some in person and others through virutal connectivity. On an annual basis, further participation will grow to include schools, universities, NGOs and ministries - all invited in via the web-interaction to discuss the critical issues facing humanity and our planet and focus on solutions.

The special sitting of the World Summit for Nobel Peace Laureates will take place in Stavangar, Norway on the 12th of September. The distinguished panel will be discussing the Millennium Development Goals via a ‘live’ interactive web-platform linked to the panel of luminaries in the United Nations in New York City. The Forum will close with a document of commentary and suggestions for consideration which will be delivered to the President of the UN General Assembly. This message will be handed on to the Secretary General of the UN and thereafter to all world leaders at the next General Assembly meeting.

Some of the distinguished Nobel Laureates and luminaries who are supporting the 2008 Summit include: Mohamed Yunus, Kofi Anan, Desmond Tutu, Sir Bob Geldof, Al Gore, Aung San Suu Kyi.

BRIEF EVENT DESCRIPTION:

At 8 pm EST the doors of the General Assembly Hall will open to a star-studded audience of international luminaries and dignitaries. During the course of the Awards ceremony - UN Messengers of Peace, celebrated Goodwill Ambassadors and other renowned figures will take the stage and spotlight diverse individuals, organizations and nations across the globe who have notably impacted the Millennium Development Goals during the course of the year.

Goodwill messages will be beamed into the Assembly Hall from other luminaries around the world - along with short video documentaries highlighting the eight Millennium Goals.

Nominations will be announced before the Award winners are invited to the stage or linked into the ceremony via satellite or inserted pre-recordings.

Finally

A distilled message will be delivered from the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, luminaries and UN Dignitaries filmed earlier in the day during the interactive Humanitad Forum. This message will be relayed by the President of the General Assembly to the Secretary General. and thereafter to all world leaders at the next General Assembly meeting.
