Robin DiMaggio
Music Director
Robin DiMaggio is a musical force with whom to be reckoned. Known as one of the world's premiere drummers and percussionists, Robin is also a highly skilled songwriter, composer, conductor, arranger, producer, engineer and instrumentalist (piano, bass, saxophone, and clarinet).
Having traveled extensively from an early age, his music embodies rhythms and sounds from diverse cultures throughout the world, and the talent pool with whom Robin has worked is as vast. He has toured and recorded with veterans such as Paul Simon, David Bowie, Diana Ross, Slash, Johnny Cash, Steve Vai, Chris Isaak, world musicians such as the acclaimed sitarist/composer Ravi Shankar and violin maestro L. Shankar. Robin has appeared on David Letterman and has performed at the Grammys, American Music Awards, World Music Awards in Monte Carlo and the MTV Awards. Robin has recorded two solo albums: Blue Planet, a musical tribute to his world travels and Sphere, a collection of lush, provocative and emotional piano solos.
Recently, Robin released a brand-new drum training DVD, Planet Groove, licensed by Hal Leonard and is available exclusively through Music Dispatch. The DVD is a unique look into his 9 different styles broken down into 24 lessons both in English and French.
Robin appears on up-and-coming singer/songwriter Keaton Simon’s new album which was released on CBS Records. He also was included on the new Song of America compilation track, ‘Yankee Doodle’ with Harper Simon, scored the ‘Ringers’ film soundtrack and was featured on The Essential Paul Simon CD as well as Simons critically acclaimed latest effort, Surprise, which was co-produced by Brian Eno. Robin’s work can also be heard on The Heavy Circles album with Edie Brickel, Harper Simon and Sean Lennon. He performed on all the drum tracks on Iglu and Hartley’s debut album, & Then Boom to be released in the U.K. He is also putting the finishing touches on Blake Perlman’s (daughter of Ron Perlman) new solo album to be released later this year.
As for actual performances, fans will have to hold out a little longer. Robin does have some incredible projects in the works as he was personally hired to work with D’elassandra by Cardinal Poupard from the Vatican to oversee the upcoming Cathredalia (the largest rock opera written for the SEA Vatican) to be held in Rome, Italy.
As usual, there are always things brewing up for Robin on all fronts, including a line of the Signature DiMaggio eco-friendly drum stick with Pro-Mark. More to come…
