A EUROPEAN EDUCATION & CULTURAL INITIATIVE
Overview
The Centurion Project is a culture preservation initiative in Transylvania, Romania. The essence of the project is to save the culture of the two million strong Transylvanian Hungarian Minority from self-assimilation caused by a catastrophic
decline of quality education within the education system. As a result, in about 10 years the local Hungarian education system will start running out of qualified educators and it will auto-assimilate into the majority culture, the Romanian one.
A year ago the Centurion Society was funded and registered in Cluj, Romania. The goal of the Society is to help students and educators alike to bring back lost quality in education and to enforce mandatory legal procedures in the supervision of the functioning of educational facilities.
Ongoing projects:
- Talent search and support project. Every year, - for 10 years, 10 extremely talented students will be chosen for a 10 year study. (From the 7th grade, through school and college). This is to produce a well prepared group of teachers and scholars for Transylvania education.
- A student of psychology has been chosen by Centurion and sent from Transylvania to the University of Debrecen to be trained in professional talent screening. Also, two high-school teachers were sent to the
same university for training to become Centurion-students mentors and supervisors.
- The Centurion Society wishes to establish an office in Cluj, Romania, to constantly monitor and evaluate the Euro-compatibility of the functioning of the academic institutions. The same office will create a database for the assistance of students by teaching them how to search and apply for grants and for study opportunities within the EU.
